Jovon Makama believes there’s lots to build on after beginning pre-season by netting the winning goal in the opening friendly against Preston North End.
It took just two minutes for the frontman to curl in City’s opener against the Sky Bet Championship side at the Pinatar Arena, ending a positive week out in Spain for the team.
He said: “It was a good feeling to get back out on the pitch again, as well as scoring the winning goal. It all came from the hard work of the players behind me like Tom Bayliss and Oisin Gallagher. They won the ball back, it fell into my path and then I found the back of the net which was nice.
“I feel good although it was tough with the heat and with it being my first time playing for a while. I think the lads are pleased with how we performed.
“It has been tough and there has been a lot of running but everyone has pushed through it together, and it has been a good week.”
The 20-year-old feels he benefited from the first-team game time he received last season and hopes to kick on as the lads now continue their 24/25 preparations back in England.
He added: “Having time on the pitch is always going to help develop a player. I think coming in from the Preston game you can see that I’ve improved from a year ago.
“It’s good to finish off a tough week with a nice win. Overall the game is for the lads to get back out there and build their match fitness up which is the most important thing.”
