Dom Jefferies believes City’s emphatic 4-1 victory over Burnley demonstrated the progress the Imps have made after they secured their first home win of the Sky Bet Championship season.
Jefferies was among the goalscorers as City produced an impressive second-half display to overcome a Burnley side who were playing Premier League football last season.
He said: “It’s a great result. It just shows how far the football club has come in general, and all the lads.
“We worked on a plan all week and it’s great to go out there today, execute it and get a result that we deserved.”
Ben House’s equaliser shortly before the interval proved an important moment, with City responding to the half-time instructions from head coaches Chris Cohen and Tom Shaw to take control of the contest.
Jefferies said: “It was massive. To go into half-time level gave us a foothold and momentum in the game.
“We just needed a bit more aggression, a bit more physicality, to get up to people and press high.
“As you probably saw in the second half, we were a lot more on the front foot and didn’t give them too much respect.”
Mikkel Ladefoged marked his first start for the Imps with two goals, and Jefferies was full of praise for the Danish forward’s contribution.
He said: “He’s done really, really well. He probably hasn’t had the minutes he’s wanted this season, so to come in, play like that, score two goals and perform really well is a massive bonus for him.”
Jefferies also found the net himself and was pleased to make another attacking contribution. He said: “I’ve played at the back, I’ve played in the middle and I’ve played out wide.
“It’s good that I’m getting myself into those spaces and creating those opportunities. Obviously, I managed to take one today.”
The victory ended City’s wait for a first home league win of the campaign, with Jefferies pleased to reward the supporters following a number of encouraging performances at the ProAmpac Stadium.
He said: “It’s been a long time coming. There have been a few games before this where we’ve deserved three points, but to put the game to bed, score four goals and have plenty of good performances all around the pitch is a massive bonus.
“It’s great for the fans.”
City now turn their attention to another home fixture against Birmingham City next Saturday, with Jefferies confident the Imps can build on their performance.
He added: “We’ll have a plan all week to go after them. All the lads believe we can win every game against every team we play.
“That shows there’s no fear and we’re confident going into it.”
