Dom Jefferies believes the support inside the ProAmpac Stadium can provide City with an extra edge when Southampton visit on Saturday 5 September (12.30pm KO).
The Imps will play their second home game of the week against the Saints, with another big Championship test awaiting Chris Cohen and Tom Shaw's side.
City picked up a point against Blackburn Rovers on Tuesday night, producing another positive performance in front of a vocal home crowd.
Jefferies says the atmosphere created by the supporters can make a real difference, particularly during the latter stages of games.
“The fans are like a twelfth man,” he said.
“We saw on Tuesday night how loud they were and it gives us that energy to keep going, even in the late stages of the game.
“I thought we were on top Tuesday night and just needed to find a way to take that last chance and kill the game off.”
The Welshman is now looking forward to another test against Southampton, with the Imps aiming to build on their encouraging start to life in the Championship.
“It’s a great club, it’s a great test. It’s what we all dream of, playing in big occasions,” Jefferies said.
“As we’ve shown so far, especially against Middlesbrough, we can hold our own, give a good game and we’re confident going into it.”
Having made the step up to the Championship this season, Jefferies has already seen the demands of the division first-hand and believes each game is helping him continue to develop.
“You learn more with the more games you play and the different opposition you come up against,” he explained.
“You learn from each game, each player and each team.
“The quality obviously rises as you go up the leagues, but I feel like you adapt to that as you play games.
“After four games, I feel like I’m getting better in each match.”
