City will pay tribute to former player George Peden following his passing at the age of 83, with players wearing black armbands during Saturday’s Sky Bet Championship fixture at Sheffield United.
The Imps will also hold a minute’s applause ahead of the home fixture against Burnley on Saturday 24 October at the ProAmpac Stadium, providing an opportunity for supporters to come together and remember George.
The tribute has been arranged for the Burnley fixture to allow members of George’s family to attend and join supporters in celebrating his life and contribution to the club.
George joined City from Scottish side Heart of Midlothian in May 1967 and spent seven seasons at Sincil Bank, making more than 250 appearances in all competitions.
A popular and uncompromising left-back, he scored 19 goals and was named the club’s Supporters’ Player of the Year for the 1972/73 season. One of his most memorable moments came in September 1967 when he scored the winning penalty in a famous League Cup victory over First Division Newcastle United.
George left the Imps in 1974, going on to represent Worksop Town, Lincoln United and Skegness Town before returning to Scotland.
The thoughts of everyone at Lincoln City are with George’s family and friends at this difficult time.
