Sam Tillen was pleased with his squad’s performance as the young Imps ran out 4-2 winners over Wrexham.

Josh Kennealey scored the opener just before the break before netting two more in the second half to round out his hattrick while Will Cowin got himself on the scoresheet with the Imps final goal. Tillen praised the efforts of goalkeeper Jaden Taylor who made a first half penalty save to keep the game goalless.

Tillen said: “Goals change games, and we’ve been on the receiving end of some of those in recent games, but Jaden stepping up for us in that moment when tipping the penalty onto a post gave us the impetus to kick on.

“It was a real turning point in the game and a positive from our perspective and I thought from there out we looked very good and defended incredibly for 85 minutes.”

Tillen also commended Josh Kennealey’s work rate both during games and on the training pitch.

He added: “I’m pleased for Josh because he is always the first to put his head above the parapet, he works hard and is always the one who takes responsibility in terms of his attacking play.

“He always puts himself into areas where he can get chances and can be quite tough on himself when he doesn’t take those chances, so I’m delighted today he got a fully deserved hat-trick.”
