Sam Tillen was pleased with the bright start his young side made in the Youth Alliance Cup preliminary round despite a 4-3 defeat to Salford City.

Timi Bada scored a brace within the first five minutes of the contest before Donald Inyama made it 3-0 after 15 minutes. Tillen spoke about how encouraged he was by the performance of Bada.

He said: “He did well considering he had to come off after 60 minutes on Saturday. It was impressive that he managed to be as productive as he was and made himself such a threat throughout the whole 90 minutes.

“It’s a testament to him and his character; he created a number of opportunities for us and on another day hopefully we could’ve taken them but overall, I’m really pleased with him and the threat he offered.”

Attentions now turn back to the Youth Alliance North campaign for the young Imps as they are faced with Stockport County in their first away outing of the season on Saturday 16 August.

Tillen added: “This game is something to learn from, we must make sure that we show a reaction on Saturday. We need to take the positives from it but there are certain things we can’t allow to occur again.

“There are plenty of things to look back on because we are here to win matches, but we also want to develop the young players at the same time and this is a massive opportunity to learn from.”
