Midfielder Donald Inyama believed that the young Imps were unlucky to not come out on top in a seven-goal thriller against Morecambe on Saturday.
Despite getting himself on the scoresheet and putting the young Imps ahead only two minutes in, it was not enough as City fell short to lose 4-3 in the latter stages of the match.
He said: “We weren’t up to speed in the first half but fixed the problems and came out strong in the second half, controlling the play and dictating the tempo of the game. We got the first goal, but unfortunately, we got a bit complacent at the end.
“We were unlucky not to get the win, but it shows we just needed to kill off the game.
“I’m always happy to get a goal, the opportunity came very early on, and it helped us put pressure onto them straight away.”
Sam Tillen's side travels to Notts County in the PDL cup on Wednesday and Inyama sees this as a chance to get back to winning ways.
He said: “It’s a very good opportunity, to get back to winning but we have to learn from today and take on board the feedback from the coaching staff so we can bounce back stronger.”
Head coach Sam Tillen reflected on his side's performance and the lessons that his players can learn from the defeat.
"We scored three but it wasn’t enough, we’ve been punished for our mistakes, it'll be a learning curve for the players that if you give four goals away, you’re going to end up losing the game.”
