A first City goal for Joe Gardner added to a flurry of first half strikes to give Michael Skubala's side a comfortable 4-1 win against Crawley.
Boss Skubala made five changes to the side that was narrowly beaten at Oakwell on Saturday. Reeco Hackett and Jovon Makama were both rewarded with starts after coming off the bench to score in South Yorkshire.
Meanwhile, George Wickens returned to the side following an injury lay-off, with James Collins and Tom Hamer also named in the starting line-up to take on the Red Devils. Making way were Zach Jeacock, Lewis Montsma, Freddie Draper, Ben House and Ethan Hamilton. There was also a place on the bench for Bailey Cadamarteri after a spell on the sidelines.
The visitors got the start they wanted and took the lead on six minutes when Kamari Doyle pounced inside the six yard box, after a Charlie Barker cross from the right was parried initially by City goalkeeper Wickens.
City looked to reply with a Tom Bayliss cross falling at the feet at defender Sean Roughan, but his effort on the turn was scuffed into the arms of goalkeeper Joseph Wollacott.
Fellow defender Tendayi Darikwa could not come any closer to equalising on 11 minutes when his volley from the left side of the penalty area crashed off the underside of the crossbar and was cleared.
The pressure City applied was paid off as Michael Skubala's side found themselves level on 14 minutes as Dom Jefferies' cross was inch-perfect to find the head of James Collins, who nodded home for his fourth goal of the season.
Returning goalkeeper Wickens was called into action in an entertaining opening 20 minutes, smothering Tyreece John-Jules' effort from close range as both sides created chances.
City got their noses in front on 25 minutes as a clipped ball in from Dom Jefferies found the head of Jovon Makama. His initial header bounced off the inside of the post, but found the ball back at his feet, before flicking the ball home to give the Imps the lead with his eighth goal of the campaign.
After scoring the second, Makama returned the favour to Jefferies, as he arrived at the back post to poke an effort past Wollacott and established City's two-goal cushion on 32 minutes.
The Red Devils managed to push back just before the break as Armando Quitirna found John Jules on the edge of the box, but his strike was wild and high over Wickens' crossbar.
City started the second half brightly as a Tom Bayliss corner nearly found its way in at the back post, but was deflected wide on 55 minutes.
The returning Tom Hamer went close with just under 20 minutes to play from another corner, with his header fired just over the bar. Luckily for the defender, referee Josh Smith's whistle was blown for a foul just before.
Bailey Cadamarteri returned to the pitch for the first time since January with ten minutes to play as the striker will look to build up his match fitness.
Substitute Clucas came close to adding a fourth for the Imps ten minutes from time, but his strike on the turn was high and wide into the Stacey West Stand.
Fellow substitute Hamilton could have secured the three points a minute later when he was found from House inside the penalty area. Some of the LNER Stadium thought the ball had hit the net, but were disappointed to see the effort flash wide.
Joe Gardner rounded off the scoring with two minutes to play claiming his first City goal. He linked up with fellow substitute Hamilton, before beating his man on the left and rolling the ball into the net with some help off the post.
