Josh Honohan believes the hard work is paying off after taking another positive step in his return to fitness.
Honohan featured in City’s victory over Mansfield Town on Saturday, his second behind-closed-doors appearance in the space of a week as he continues to build fitness ahead of the new campaign.
He said: “It was a good workout and it was nice to get some more minutes.
“It’s obviously been a long time coming because I haven’t played for a while, but it felt great to be back out there. All the hard work is starting to come to fruition.
“The start of pre-season and the warm-weather training camp in Spain was all about getting back into it and finding my feet again. After being out for so long, it’s about dusting off the cobwebs and getting used to how the lads play and understanding everyone’s game."
Honohan is remaining patient, but is looking forward to contributing once the season gets underway.
He said: “It’s all been really positive and this was another good run-out, so hopefully there’s more to come.
“I’ve been out for a long time, so it’s all about getting fit again and getting that sharpness back. The medical team have pushed me hard throughout.
“Spain was tough with temperatures close to 40C, but it’ll all be worth it when the season starts.
“I’m really looking forward to it now. Last season I spent four or five months watching the lads, and that’s never where you want to be, so I’m really looking forward to getting back on the pitch.”
