Sam Tillen was thrilled with the attacking threat shown by his young squad as they registered a 4-2 win over Guiseley.

Braces from both Freddie Wilson and Dan Vanderpuye ensured the young Imps are heading into next week’s Scotland tour with a win under their belts after a number of encouraging signs so far in pre-season.

Tillen spoke about the positive performance and how important it is to balance minutes to avoid injury.

He said: “Overall it was a positive performance, I thought Dan Vanderpuye looked a real threat and his pace caused Guiseley problems, Noah and Freddie linked up very well on the left-hand side with both Freddie and Dan deserving their two goals.

“We came through without injury and managed to even out the minutes after Wednesday, so everyone goes into next week and our trip to Scotland with minutes in the bank.”

Tillen highlighted Josh Blant as a player who made a positive impact from the bench after having a difficult time of things through injury.

Tillen said: “I was particularly pleased with our attacking threat in the second half and the introduction of Josh Blant added a different dimension to our play and the threat we carried particularly in in wide areas led to three of the goals and a very good press led to the other.”
