FPA guests v Shrewsbury Town

The Former Players' Association guests for Saturday's home game against Shrewsbury Town are host Gavin Gordon, Matt Carmichael, Paul Ward, Darren Davis and Jason Barnett.

Gavin Gordon

Gavin Gordon was a striker who made his senior debut for Hull City just two months after his 16th birthday and went on to make regular first team appearances for the Tigers before he was sold to the Imps in November 1997 when he was still just 18-years-old.

In his first season, he helped City win promotion and was a first team regular. In 2000-01 he scored 10 goals by early December and was then sold to Cardiff City for a six-figure fee. He later played for Notts County. Gavin is chairman of the Former Players Association.

Matt Carmichael

Matt Carmichael was signed by Colin Murphy in August 1989.

At the time he was planning to join the Met Police after having previously served in the British Army but Colin offered him a professional contract and his career changed track.

He was initially used as a striker and scored on his debut against Scunthorpe United but later converted to centre back.

He was voted the supporters player of the season in 1991-92 and made over 150 first team appearances before moving on to Scunthorpe in July 1993.

Matt later played for Preston, Mansfield, Doncaster and Darlington. Matt is vice chairman of the Former Players Association.

Paul Ward

Paul Ward was a midfield player who appeared for both Leyton Orient and the Imps in a career which saw him play in more than 300 senior games.

He was a youngster with Chelsea before making his Football League debut following a move to Middlesbrough.

He later made over 100 appearances for Darlington before joining Leyton Orient for the 1988-89 season. He helped Orient to promotion via the play-offs and was also selected in the PFA Fourth Division Team of the Year.

Paul moved on to Scunthorpe before signing for City in March 1991. He made 45 league and cup appearances for the Imps before his career was cut short by injury.

Darren Davis

Darren was a popular member of the Imps first team upon our return to the Football League, and was a mainstay for three seasons at the Bank, while also sharing a dressing room with Keith Alexander.

The midfielder signed in 1988 following a spell at Notts County, and made 102 appearances for City, scoring four times.

Spells at Maidstone United, Boston United, Frickley Athletic, Scarborough and Grantham Town followed before a final three games for the Imps in 1996.

The ex-England Youth international went on to manage Gedling Town.

Jason Barnett

Jason Barnett made 207 appearances in the Football League for Lincoln City between 1995 and 2002.

He was a product of the youth team of Wolverhampton Wanderers, but never played for the first team. He joined the Imps in October 1995 for a £5,000 fee, scored on his debut, and went on to make 239 appearances for the club in all competitions, scoring in his last game for Lincoln in 2002.

With the club on the verge of administration, Barnett was one of several players who left the club at the end of the 2001-02 campaign.

Spells at Lincoln United, Cottesmore Amateurs and Spalding United followed.
