Leo Fifield scored City’s only goal of the game as the young striker looks to continue his solid scoring form from the end of last season.
He said: “I thought I did well, obviously I got a goal, I did my job at the end of the day, but I know myself and what I did last season. I have a couple of levels to go but that will come through the season and with the maturity of the team.”
The crucial goal for Lincoln came in the second half after the young Imps had fallen behind, but Fifield spoke on the pivotal moment that salvaged a point.
He said: “Sam had a chat with me at half time and said to keep going because it will come. I know my ability, so I know when I get that chance, I’m going to make something of it.”
He added: “I think Freddie has done really well to put Leo Vout through and I just made the run, caught it nicely and it was a clever finish as I chipped it over the keeper.”
The physical battles between players were a key part of the match, particularly as the young Imps looked to attack.
Fifield spoke on whether he enjoys dealing with strong defenders, saying: “To be honest, I don’t really care who I play against, I’m just focusing on myself and the team, but it helps me if I’m up against better players and it’s something that I enjoy.
Looking ahead to Saturday as City host Preston North End in their first home league fixture of the campaign, Fifield spoke about the preparations ahead of the game.
He said: “It’s Preston at home so we know they are going to be a good side, but we’re going to come in on Monday, heads up, smiles, we’ll work through the week and then on Saturday give it our all again and hopefully go for the win.”
