Deji Elerewe has been voted the Bainland August Player of the Month.
The defender was a constant presence throughout the opening month of the campaign, playing every minute in four of City’s five games in all competitions.
That included all three of the Imps’ opening Sky Bet Championship fixtures, with Elerewe helping Chris Cohen and Tom Shaw’s side make a strong start to life back in the second tier.
The month was rounded off in perfect fashion as City kept a clean sheet and claimed their first Championship victory for 65 years with a 1-0 win over Bolton Wanderers.
A commanding presence at the heart of the defence, Elerewe’s performances earned him the Player of the Month award, as voted for by City supporters.
Elerewe said: “It’s been a great start to the season, both personally and for the team.
“I feel like we’ve adapted to life in the Championship really well and had a positive month in August. That was epitomised by the win at Bolton Wanderers, which was a really important result for us.
“To get the clean sheet was really pleasing as well. There’s been a lot of credit coming my way, but it’s a collective effort. The other defenders have been brilliant and George Wickens has made some great saves behind us, so it’s been a real team effort.”
