Callum Elder believes Lincoln City’s pre-season training camp in Spain has provided the perfect platform to build relationships with his new team-mates ahead of the new campaign.
The left-back has enjoyed a positive start to life as an Imp, with the squad completing two demanding days of work in challenging conditions to build on the work already done at the Gen2 Energy Elite Performance Centre.
Elder said: “We’ve had a good couple of days. The conditions are obviously tough, but the commitment shown by the lads has been excellent.
“We’re working on the methods we’re going to use this season, everyone is buying into it and the energy is high. It’s only two days in, but it’s been a good start to the week.”
Having joined the club this summer, Elder is pleased to have the opportunity to spend the full pre-season programme alongside his new team-mates.
He added: “Getting in early is important for a number of reasons. You can settle into the team during a good six-week block before the season starts, build relationships with your new team-mates and understand the identity and the way we want to play.
“I’m really delighted to get a full pre-season in with the lads and it’s started well.”
Despite the heat in Spain, Elder has been impressed with the attitude shown throughout the squad as preparations continue ahead of Friday’s friendly against Leyton Orient.
He said: “Of course it’s hot. It’s always going to be on trips like this, but the energy and effort levels shown by the lads have been first class.
“We’ve got the game on Friday to look forward to after building into it with the game against Boston last Saturday, so everyone’s raring to go.”
Friday’s fixture will also provide Elder with his first opportunity to play in front of City supporters, something he is eagerly anticipating.
He added: “The support was unbelievable last season and there’s so much momentum carrying into this season,” he said.
“It’s an exciting time for the football club, so it’ll be great to see so many supporters come out. We’re looking forward to seeing them and hopefully putting on a good performance for them.”
