Chris Cohen is looking forward to City's return to the ProAmpac Stadium as the Imps prepare for their first home fixture of the 2026/27 Sky Bet Championship campaign.
After beginning life back in the second tier with an encouraging performance at Middlesbrough, City welcome Portsmouth on Saturday as Championship football returns to the ProAmpac Stadium for the first time in more than six decades.
For Cohen, it is an opportunity to experience the atmosphere created by the City supporters, who played a key role throughout last season's promotion-winning campaign.
He said: “The Wycombe Wanderers game at home feels a lifetime ago.
“It’s great to be back in front of the supporters who played such an important role in the season we had last year. Our home form was extraordinary and we’re going to need them again this year.
“They stick with us through thick and thin but the atmosphere that they create is something that we can help with the way we play and the intent that we play with.
“It’s going to be a really important part of us picking up lots of home points.”
City lost just once at the ProAmpac Stadium on their way to the Sky Bet League One title last season, and Cohen wants the Imps to once again make their home advantage count this term.
He added: “Home games are an opportunity for us to go and take three points, but that's the same as Middlesbrough away although the way that we go about it might be a little bit different.
“I think I’ve said it a few times and I’ll keep saying it at the end of every game: whether we win, lose or draw, we want to put in a performance that the supporters can be proud of.
“That’s our aim going into it and hopefully that’ll be enough to get us over the line.”
Cohen expressed his thoughts on new signing Yunus Konak, following the midfielder's arrival on loan from Premier League side Brentford.
The 20-year-old joins a midfield group containing Conor McGrandles, Ivan Varfolomeev and Tom Bayliss, providing Cohen and Tom Shaw with another option in an area they had identified for reinforcement during pre-season.
Cohen continued: “We’ve known throughout the course of pre-season that a fourth midfielder was going to be needed, obviously to help with Conor McGrandles, Ivan Varfolomeev and Tom Bayliss.
“We knew that bringing another midfielder in, especially someone of Yunus’ quality, was really pleasing for us.
“He’s trained with the group and straight away you can see that he’s going to have an effect on the squad in terms of the way that he plays football.
“I’m sure the supporters will really enjoy watching him when he takes the field for us.”
