The Scotsman went on to enjoy a lengthy playing career as a full-back for the likes of Leeds United, Leicester City and Brighton & Hove Albion before hanging up his boots in 1970.
The defender also earned two international caps for Scotland in 1966 against Portugal and Brazil.
Willie’s first British coaching role came at Birmingham City in 1975 where he spent two seasons before taking the reins at Lincoln City between 1977 and 1978.
