City captain Regan Poole recently visited Sturton by Stow Primary School as part of their mystery reader initiative.
The City defender read a book to the pupils before engaging in a question and answer session.
Poole was asked a variety of questions including his favourite Imps match and if he enjoys reading.
He said; “It was great to visit Sturton by Stow Primary School and be their mystery reader.
“I’m looking forward to hopefully seeing many of them at the LNER Stadium soon.”
The primary school has made reading a high profile this year and spent the last months brainstorming ideas to encourage reading.
Alison Simmons, headteacher at Sturton by Stow Primary School, said: “One of the ideas we decided on was for children to see different people reading. We wanted to break down some of the stereotypes of who reads and what they read.
“Their faces lit up when they saw Regan was the mystery reader. They were amazed.”
