Paudie O’Connor and his team-mates are eager for the opening game of the season as City head to Bolton Wanderers on Saturday.
The Imps have come through a tough pre-season schedule and the defender is now itching for competitive football to resume.
He said: “I suppose it’s ending what has been a tough five-to-six-week block of training, but we’re just excited for the first game to come around and hopefully we can start the season on the front foot.
“We’ve been working hard over the past few weeks and the new boys have settled in well, so we all have that buzz for the first match.”
The 26-year-old was named as City’s club captain ahead of the season opening weekend, but despite taking the armband believes there are a number of senior figures amongst the squad who he will share leading the group with.
He added: “You maybe have more responsibility off the pitch now compared to just leading on it, but there are a number of lads like Adam Jackson or Ted Bishop who are senior and will take on those roles of responsibility around the place too.
“It’s not a one man band in that sense, there is definitely a leadership group who will set positive examples.”
