Ash Foyle has praised his side’s character after beating Oldham Athletic U18s 4-3 in the EFL Youth Alliance Cup.
City U18s picked up an important victory in the cup on Tuesday afternoon, with Julian Donnery netting twice and Russell Berko and Tayo Tucker both scoring one each.
Foyle said: “We started the game well and dominated from the outset. We were comfortable in possession and created a number of chances.
“In the second half, Oldham came out chasing the game and we failed to kill it off. We allowed them some belief and made a game of it towards the end, with us just about getting over the line thanks to some fantastic saves by Isaac Allan.”
The young Imps have had a solid start to the new season but Foyle still believes that the side have some room for improvement out on the pitch.
He continued: “I thought we had a couple more gears and sensed that we were falling into a trap of complacency when going in 2-0 at half-time.
“We have to learn how to control the momentum of games and not give the opposition any unnecessary encouragement to get back into the game, as the game could have run away from us.”
