Lead Phase Development Coach Ash Foyle says the club's schoolboy players will learn from the experience of playing for the U18s against Bradford City on Saturday.
On Saturday a young Imps side faced a strong Bantams team in their first home fixture in the league since before the Christmas break, suffering a 5-0 defeat.
Foyle said: “It was a tough day at the office. Despite being young, we needed to be better.
"We conceded five goals which I believe could have all been prevented had we done things better or made better decisions. We needed to do more to make it more of a competitive game.
"We aim to approach these games with a young squad and make it a much tougher and challenging environment. But we have to learn quickly as if we execute poorly we will be punished, as we have been.
"We certainly back this group of players to come through challenging times and not get too low following heavy defeat and in turn not too excited should we win in a similar manner as we have done at points this season. We have to find that middle ground and put in better performances.”
