Paudie O’Connor feels City's defensive players are building really strong partnerships, providing a platform to go out and winning games
The centre-back played a commanding role in City’s backline as the Imps battled their way to their first league win of the season at Oxford United on Tuesday night.
He said: “I think the partnerships are growing more match-by-match. The defensive side of the game has to be done and everyone to a man played their part.”
“Training Monday to Friday is one thing but I do not think it matches up to game intensity and the different formations that you come up against.
“There were some good forward players at Oxford to test our defence and we had eachother's back and were able to recover when things did not go our way.”
O’Connor is keen to use Tuesday’s victory as a building block as the Imps set their sights on another good result when visiting Peterborough United in Sky Bet League One this weekend.
He added: “I think the first two league games were quite even and we were happy to take a point from each fixture.
“It was important to try and get the three points at Oxford and we have done that. Going into Saturday we will try and back it up with another good performance and hopefully another three points.”
