Tayo Tucker’s hat-trick was not enough to seal all three point for City’s U18s in a dramatic encounter with Grimsby Town.
Tucker’s three strikes, coupled with efforts from Russel Berko an Louis Nesbitt, had the young Imps 5-4 up going into the final stages before conceding a late penalty and not dealing with a set-piece to concede the deciding goal.
U18s coach Ash Foyle said: “It was a crazy game of football that resembled more of a playground game rather than a u18 league fixture.
“We took hold of the game better in the second half and looked more in control when going 5-4 up, before allowing a Grimsby an easy route back into the game with another penalty before not dealing with a set piece well enough at the death to give them the win
“The lads have got to learn quickly that there are non-negotiables that must be done in order to earn a result which are normally all the hard, uncomfortable and unglamorous parts of the game.”
