Lincoln City goalkeeper Jordan Wright believes he and fellow keeper Sam Long have demonstrated they have the ability to fulfil the number one spot next season.
With Long experiencing first-team football on loan at Drogheda United in the SSE Airtricity League and Jordan playing regularly in Sky Bet League One, Wright believes the pair have shown enough to encourage Michael Appleton not to look elsewhere for a first-choice keeper next season.
Wright said: "With Sam going out on loan and me playing here it’s good that we’re both getting game time and that provides healthy competition. Now both of us have those senior experiences under our belts, hopefully the manager will allow us to battle it out among ourselves next season.
"Every day there is a lesson to learn something new. I have a desire to keep the ball out the back of the net, you protect that thing behind you and don’t let the ball past – but I’d like to still improve in all areas, that’s the type of person I am."
Originally brought in as a number two to provide cover for the first-choice Josh Griffiths, Wright has since been thrust into the first team to deputise for injuries and loanees and has quickly made his impression on the side.
Having spent his formative years developing at Nottingham Forest’s academy, transferring clubs and transitioning into a first team environment is an opportunity he has relished and one he believes he has adapted to well.
He added: "I think I have settled in well. And I had to do that quite quickly as you do in football. I haven’t explored the city too much, but my girlfriend’s family live here so I’ve been to Lincoln a couple of times.
"Forest gave me a start into how you need to be as a footballer, growing through the academy they prepare you for that life as a young professional but then it was down to myself. I had to come in and adapt to being involved in the first team every week, working hard and doing the extra little things and then taking my chance."
