After completing the first double of the season following Saturday’s victory at Charlton, City boss Michael Appleton is targeting a hat-trick of doubles in eight days.
Starting with the trip to Fleetwood on Tuesday evening, Appleton said he expects Fleetwood to provide a tough fixture in a challenging environment.
Appleton said: “They’ve got a good mixture of experience and youth and you only have to look at who they can bring off their bench to know they have a good group. They will come into the game full of confidence, so we must be guarded.
Last time out they were very hard to beat – but when you look at them now they try to play more and have a different shape and personnel. It’s a difficult pitch and they’ll be able to adapt to that because they’ve played on it more, so that’s something we need to be mindful for.”
On an individual note, one member of the squad Appleton has been particularly pleased with is shot-stopper Jordan Wright.
Appleton added: “Not bringing in an emergency goalkeeper shows how delighted I have been with him. I know the players have a real confidence in him, his distribution has been excellent, and he’s made some big saves when needs be.
“He’s the type of goalkeeper who makes saves which is the biggest thing of all. He makes the goal look small at times and for his own mentality that gives him confidence.”
