Lewis Montsma feels he is developing more of a leadership role in the dressing room this season.
The centre-back has become a regular starter in Michael Appleton’s squad and his experience gained since arriving last year has paid dividends.
He said: “I think for every young player it is crucial to play games, so I’m happy to be doing that as it is helping me become a better player.
“I feel more of a leader in the dressing room than I did last year, which comes with my one-year experience now, however, I have always tried to help out my teammates as much as I can.”
Montsma is optimistic about the rest of the season and says the Imps have a lot more to give after a start to the campaign which was blighted by injuries.
He added: “Last season was a good season but we need to keep winning games, picking up points and gaining that bit of momentum. If we can do that, who knows what the future will bring.
“We’re talking and training hard every day, and as a team we’re working to move away from this inconsistency which we’re more than capable of doing.”
