Michael Appleton has been pleased with the determination shown by his side despite a challenging run of injuries in the squad.
Four points from away games at Sheffield Wednesday and Wigan Athletic mean the Imps are in good form ahead of Saturday's visit of Shrewsbury Town.
Appleton said: "We've had to show a lot of character and personality on and off the pitch, and when I've asked questions the players have come up with the right answers.
"It has been a testing but good spell. Tuesday was a sign that when the going gets tough we need to dig in, we can do that."
Victory on Saturday would likely put the Imps into the top half of the Sky Bet League One table as they look to go on a good run.
Appleton added: "This game is bigger than Tuesday's because we haven't had back to back wins this season and we're keen to do it.
"Shrewsbury come on the back of a 4-1 victory against Cambridge so they'll be in a good place, but we'll be ready and up for the game."
