Over the last month, Imps supporter Ben Ward has raised an impressive amount of money for Lincoln City Football Club through selling miniature models of LNER Stadium.
A limited run was produced with 100 models being made available in red, white and grey, and it was no surprise that they sold out after featuring on Matchday Live with Sam Ashoo and Gary Hutchinson.
“The idea came about through a bit of lockdown boredom!” explained Ben.
“I stumbled on a few YouTube videos about 3D printing and found that it was a lot more affordable now, so picked up a printer and started designing a few bits here and there.
“Designing was done initially using Google Sketchup, which is a free online tool. I found a couple of rough designs of the stadium, then built my own up using some of those measurements.
“Printing was done using a resin-based 3D printer, which allows for a much more detailed object than the traditional prints you tend to see. After a lot of trial and error, I got the design to print properly so started making them in bulk.”
With an estimated 80 – 100 work hours going into the process, Ben was over the moon for the reception they received when released to the City supporters: “I’m so proud that the mini stadiums have gone down well, everyone seems to be enjoying them.
“The response was incredible from the Imps fans. I think we’re all so starved of being away from LNER Stadium that anything reminding us of it is a bonus right now.
“I knew when I started that I’d be putting all the profits back into the club, and I’m blown away by the support shown by fellow Imps to allow this to happen. Hopefully it makes a difference, no matter how small, to the club’s coffers.”
Lincoln City Football Club would like to thank Ben Ward and everyone who purchased a model LNER Stadium.
