Eight youth team players featured in Saturday's friendly at Championship side Reading, and Long feels the experiences will aid everyone's development.
He said: "It has been good as a group and I'm really enjoying it and looking forward to what is to come.
"A lot of senior players have helped me out. Being around the first team has helped me with things like communication and positioning, but also how you have to be off the pitch."
The 18-year-old goalkeeper, who signed his first professional contract this summer, kept a clean sheet during the 45 minutes he played against the Royals.
He added: "It was good to get some minutes in, we've not played for some time and I enjoyed it.
"I've been aiming to really be a presence in the goal and a few good saves will help. I feel a lot more confident, but there's still a lot of work to do before the season starts."
