Michael Appleton believes the standard of competition in Sky Bet League One this season is as strong as ever.
It is still early days in the campaign, but Appleton has seen enough to know how competitive it is.
He said: “I know we’ve only had three games but when you look and analyse other results it’s a very strong league, probably stronger than last season.
“We’ll go to Wycombe on Saturday to try and win the game, that’s how we always set up, but anything you get on the road this season will be good.”
Saturday’s opponents Wycombe Wanderers were relegated from the Championship this summer, and Appleton thinks that experience will leave them in good stead.
He added: “They’ve got a hell of a lot of options and you can see why they were so close to staying up in the Championship.
“You can see there are a few players who have been on that journey with Gareth, I’m sure they’ll be in and around the top six.”
