On Friday 15th May 2020, International Day of Families, Lincoln City Foundation partnered up with the EFL Trust and Ferrero to launch the ‘Joy of Moving Home School Festival’. A full week of home school activities and games, from 18/5/20 -22/5/20, to get children and their families moving and having fun.
Following the launch of the new online Joy of Moving Resource Hub, the Home School Festival involved 72 EFL Trust network Club Community Organisations. It gave children and families the chance to move and have fun with many activities to choose from. Over 1200 schools were involved in the national event and Lincoln City Foundation engaged with schools across Lincolnshire who wanted to take up the challenge.
Lincoln City Foundations Schools Manager, Manraj Sucha, was delighted with the response to the festival: “It was great to see so many schools engage with the resources we sent out and I’m glad they found the material to be valuable for parents and children.
The emails and messages from schools wanting to get involved showed how much Physical Education is becoming valued within the primary school environment. We are developing partnerships with some fantastic organisations to be able to deliver an excellent programme of PE and sport across schools; and initiatives like these show the strength of our network which reaches across the nation, not just within Lincolnshire.”
Movement through Play
The games and activities were based on the unique Joy of Moving methodology, developed by Ferrero with key independent parties including Foro Italico (Rome University) and the Italian Olympic Committee (CONI). This methodology inspires children to move through play across the world, whilst developing key skills in four major areas: physical fitness, motor coordination, cognitive functions and creativity and life skills.
The festival created a buzz on social media and the events can be found using the tag #JOMHomeFestival or to find more fun games to play visit www.joyofmovingresourcehub.co.uk.
