Michael Appleton revealed that Imps homegrown midfielder Ellis Chapman will play against Gillingham on Saturday.
The 18-year-old has started once in the league this season, as he played 90 minutes at Peterborough United.
With Joe Morrell’s suspension and call-up to the Wales squad, Chapman looks set to take the spot of the Bristol City loanee.
“He will play on Saturday and he knows that,” Appleton said.
“I’ve been delighted with the way he’s trained and the way he played the other night. It’s up to him now to get himself a run in the team.”
Ellis has already made four appearances under Appleton, and the Imps boss sees plenty of potential in the Lincoln-born midfielder.
“People forget he’s 18, and I suppose I did to a certain degree when I came in,” he added.
“He’s going to have a bright future. At some point, he will get a run in the team, and hopefully that can start now.”
Ellis admitted his delight in knowing that he will get more minutes under his belt at Gillingham, but says it’s business as usual in terms of preparation.
“I don’t want to overthink it,” he said.
“I’ll train, probably get a haircut and chill with the lads. I’ll wait until it gets to kick-off on Saturday and try to affect the team.
“I am preparing myself to play and now I know, I’m delighted and can’t wait to get out there.”
