Imps boss Michael Appleton has described tonight’s Leasing.com Trophy fixture against Rotherham United at Sincil Bank as a “great opportunity” for his squad.
The fixture against the Millers was due to be City’s only home game of the month, but the upcoming FA Cup replay against Ipswich Town has added a further fixture into the Imps’ month.
City must overturn a four-goal deficit to progress into the knockout stages of the Leasing.com Trophy, and Michael is clear of his targets for his side.
“First and foremost it’s a great opportunity for some of the players to get some minutes under their belt,” he said.
“We have to try and win the game, that has to be the first objective. If you get yourselves in a position of going through, we may have a chance to go for it.
“The instruction firstly will be to go out and win the game.”
The Imps boss was asked about changes to the Imps squad for the fixture, and intimated at changes to his side.
“We have some players on the bench who are chomping at the bit,” he added.
“We don’t have that many and some players had a tough day at Ipswich who may have to go again on Tuesday, which isn’t ideal for everybody but it’s a good opportunity for some.”
