Jack Payne can’t wait for the season to get underway after joining The Imps and the former Huddersfield Town man is relishing the opportunity to play in front of the Sincil Bank faithful.

The 24-year-old says he’s enjoying life with the Imps already although he only joined up with the squad this week but what he has experienced so far has just whet his appetite even more for the rest of pre-season and the League One campaign ahead.

After joining the club in a permanent deal, Jack is looking forward to putting down some roots and concentrating on the future after being impressed right from his first meeting with the Imps’ management duo, Danny and Nicky Cowley, whose successes had been noticed by the midfielder ahead of him joining the club.

“I’m really excited and looking forward to getting started obviously it’s nice to be on a permanent deal so I can settle down and I’m excited for the season to start.” He said.

“It’s a club on the up with good momentum and it’s always good to join a club like that. I spoke to the managers and everything that they said sounded good so it’s a good move for me.  I first heard of their interest about a month ago and from there, we had a few talks and met up a couple of times and it was all positive so I’m glad it’s all sorted now.

“Obviously they’ve been successful not just here but everywhere they’ve been it’s good to join a team with successful managers and I’m hopeful they can get the best out of me.”

Jack said after his first training session he was instantly impressed with his teammates and says The Imps squad has potential for good things, and he’s glad he’s been able to join the group early to get in a full preseason.

“I’ve been training with the squad a couple of days now and the standard has been really high and I’m really impressed. I’m glad I got it sorted early that I can come in and get around the lads and get used to how everyone plays, it’s obviously important to get as many preseason games in as possible to be ready for the start of the season.

So what can supporters expect from Jack when he makes his maiden bow in front of the faithful at Sincil Bank?

“Firstly, I’ll work hard for the team, most importantly but I like to think I can be creative and I think I can get goals and assists and hopefully I can get the fans off their seat and they’ll be excited. I can’t wait for it to be honest, I’m counting down the days. I’ve heard massive things about the fans and I know players who played against Lincoln last season and they all said they were the best fans by a mile so to have them on your side is massive and it will make all the difference.”
