This Saturday and Sunday, the annual Valley Parade Memorial Tournament kicks off over in West Yorkshire, it will be the 34th time the tournament has taken place since the first one played over the Easter period in 1986.
Last year, The Imps Under 14’s were to take home the trophy in their age group as they defeated hosts, Bradford City in the final, winning by 1-0, a goal scored in the final moments of extra time. Meanwhile the Under 12’s also took home silverware as they were runners up after losing to German side, Hamm, 2-1.
The tournament came about as a result of the tragic events which unfolded at Bradford City’s stadium on May 11th 1985 when sadly 56 people lost their lives in the fire which engulfed part of the stadium. The annual tournament represents a time to reflect, remember and pay respects to those who are no longer with us, also the event focuses on the future and gives young players from different backgrounds the opportunity to compete in an arena that promotes friendship.
Parking and admission is free for all who wish to attend and show their support, Marley Activities and Coaching Centre in Keighley, West Yorkshire.
We wish all the teams the best of luck this weekend.
