Spreading the word of the Imps’ is naturally something we all love to do, and now fan and writer, Ian Plenderleith, has decided to put finger to keyboard to tell his story of following our beloved football club and others right across almost all of the four corners of the earth.
‘The Quiet Fan’ tells the story of Ian’s memories of watching the Imps and other teams around the globe from the 1970’s right through the present day and he explains just how much his early experiences at Sincil Bank shaped how he has watched the beautiful game ever since.
Much like the recent success of the Cowleys’ Perfect Pitch Crowdfunder, Ian has too taken to a similar platform in bringing ‘The Quiet Fan’ to print via Unbound. Unbound are a crowd-funded publisher, although they are relatively young they are already winning awards and Ian saw them as a perfect fit for the project.
Ian has been one of the judges and editors of a collection of stories about following The Imps on the road. Due to be published in mid November in aid of our Academy's Future Imps Fund, the book takes the reader through both the good days and the bad. It tells tales of postponed fixtures, of pointless matches, some of the more difficult matches and of course of the triumphant, life-affirming fixtures as well.
“I grew up close to Lincoln in the 70s and 80s and was lucky enough to follow the Imps as a lad during the Graham Taylor and Colin Murphy eras,” Ian said. "Watching those teams has influenced the way I’ve watched football in the various places I’ve lived ever since.”
“Living in Lincolnshire and being a City fan is a fundamental part of my memoir, and why I decided to write it in the first place. Anyone lucky enough to have experienced Sincil Bank under the Taylor and Murphy teams will hopefully relate to the stories I tell."
As a football club we are committed to championing the achievements of our terrific supporters, and following the superb support that has been given to us by the fans over the past few years we as a club have made a donation in support of Ian’s project.
