Colchester Striker Joins On Youth Loan

Striker Macauley Bonne has today joined the Imps on a youth loan from Colchester United.

Having progressed through the youth ranks at home town club Ipswich Town, Macauley served his scholarship at Colchester and was prolific enough for their youth team to earn himself a first team call-up whilst still only seventeen.

He marked his home league bow with the only goal of the game in a League One success over Peterborough United on his 18th birthday. He went on to make a further 14 appearances during the 2013/14 campaign.

First team opportunities were limited the following season but he forged himself a regular place in the squad last season scoring nine times including four in Colchester's 6-2 FA Cup first round win at Wealdstone.

Born in England to Zimbabwean parents, Macauley made a goalscoring debut for the Zimbabwe under-23 side in a friendly match against Morocco in November 2014. Less than a year later he was called up by Zimbabwe for an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Guinea but pulled out of the squad due to club commitments.

Handed the vacant number 29 squad number, Macauley's loan with City will run until 26 October 2016, the day he turns 21 years of age.
