FT: Hyde 3 Imps 4

Match report from an action-packed encounter...

Nat Brown replaced Luke Foster and Mitch Austin came in for Conner Robinson for this Skrill Premier game against bottom-placed Hyde at Ewen Fields.

It was a blustery afternoon with threatening as referee Martin Coy led the teams out of the tunnel and once the pre-match formalities were done and dusted play got underway, in front of a sparse crowd.

In the opening 30 seconds Hyde's first attack saw them fizz a ball in from the right and although the ball flew past everyone, Paul Farman and Tom Miller both seemed to crash into each other and needed treatment as a result. Farman seemed to come off the worse and was in some discomfort as he got to his feet a good three minutes later.

When play resumed, the fit-again Miller overlapped to latch on to a Ben Tomlinson through ball but could only fire straight at Chris Kettings whilst a minute later Tomlinson was denied by the home stopper when he fired in a snap-shot from 12 yards.

City continued to dominate with Austin having a shot blocked after Kettings failed to get any purchase on a clearance and from the first corner of the game Tomlinson saw his header from Sean Newton's corner cleared off the line.

The pressure paid off on the quarter-hour mark when Austin released DELANO SAM-YORKE down the middle and with Kettings coming off his line, the striker showed a cool head to neatly lift the ball over him for the opening goal.

Three minutes after the restart the rampaging Newton cut in from the left before firing wide whilst Sam-Yorke turned his man shortly after before firing at Kettings.

With the strong wind making it difficult for Kettings to get any distance on his clearances, City remained on the offensive with only an offside flag robbins Sam-Yorke of another sight of goal after he was played through by Tomlinson.

A rare Hyde foray forward ended up with Newton heading away a corner before Adam Blakeman fired a free-kick well over Farman's bar and the advancing Josh Brizzell drilled into the side-netting.

City's response saw Sam-Yorke win a corner but this came to nothing when referee Coy spotted an infringement in the hosts' favour. Newton then tried his luck from a free-kick just outside the centre-circle but his effort flew a foot wide.

Four minutes before the break a great saving block from Nat Brown denied Hughes a shot on goal as Farman struggled to come off his line but when the resultant corner was played in deep Hughes stooped and saw his far post header bounce over Farman for the leveller.

City looked for a quick reply with Newton having a shot deflected for a corner and when Brown helped the flag-kick forward, Sam-Yorke headed over from six yards.

Five additional minutes was indicated as the rain started to fall and a couple of minutes in Farman kept out a Brizzell free-kick with his legs. City replied by winning a corner of their own and when Newton curled in from the quadrant it was met by THIERRY AUDEL who planted a powerful header past Kettings for his first goal in Imps' colours.

Both sides emerged unchanged for the start of the second half and Hyde were the first to press with City clearing a corner but another quickly followed as the Imps were pushed back again to protect the injured Farman.

City's first attack of the second half saw Tomlinson collide with Kettings who came off the worse, holding his shoulder, but Hyde were quick to respond, winning two more corners which the Imps did well to deal with.

Farman did well to keep out a 56th minute Hyde free-kick as the home side continued to enjoy the better of the second period whilst Scott Spencer replaced Liam Tomsett for the first change.

A late lunge by Miller on Hughes saw the City man pick up a caution on the hour-mark whilst three minutes later Austin was replaced by Jake Sheridan on the left flank.

Hyde's pressure paid off in the 65th minute when Hughes was released down and with Farman still struggling, the home number 11 slotted home his second of the game.

Sheridan was quickly in the action as he was denied by Kettings after connecting with Tomlinson centre but it wasn't long before the home side were on the offensive, although Josh Brizell was closer to his own half than the City box when he let fly; his 45-yard effort flying over Farman to edge his side in front in the 68th minute.

Farman eventually conceded defeat and was replaced in the 74th minute by Dan Gray. Sean Newton took over between the sticks whilst Jordan Clark replaced David Poole for the home side at the same time.

Newton hadn't had time to get his gloves dirty when City levelled; Adams releasing Tomlinson who neatly slotted home his 15th of the campaign.

City had the back-tracking Sheridan to thank shortly after Jon Nolan came on for Todd Jordan when he cleared a Spencer effort away after he chipped past Newton. At the other end Tomlinson curled just wide before Power was denied by Kettings following a rasping drive from the City skipper.

Newton punched away a Brizzel free-kick before Spencer was booked for dissent after he was penalised for a push. Tomlinson then joined him in the book persistent infringement before the Fourth Official indicated that a minimum of four additional minutes were to be added on.

In the last of these additional minutes Sam-Yorke won a corner and when Power played in from the quadrant, up rose TOM MILLER to plant a firm header into the roof of the net for a dramatic last-gasp winner.
