Keith Alexander Memorial Tournament Report

Lincoln City's Youth Academy played host to an array of football talent on Sunday when the fourth annual Keith Alexander Memorial Tournament was held on Bishop Grosseteste University playing fields.

Teams from across the football spectrum - from Premiership academies to local grassroots - came together to pay their respects to a man who will always be remembered for uniting the football community. And despite the weather, the standard of football and the spirit in which the tournament was played was a truly fitting tribute.

Commenting on the success of the tournament, Damian Froggatt, Youth Academy Manager, said, "We would like to thank every single player, coach, parent and supporter from every club for their contribution to a fantastic tournament. And on such a difficult day with the conditions, we'd also like to publicly thank the young referees, our volunteers and staff who worked so hard to make the event a success.

"This was the fourth year, and certainly our most successful so far. The Keith Alexander Memorial Tournament is a flagship event for this football club and hopefully it will continue to establish itself in the hearts and minds of our young players, Lincoln City supporters, and the clubs who take part every year."

The Under 14 title was claimed by Sheffield Wednesday who defeated Peterborough United in an exciting final, while Nottingham Forest came from a goal behind to overcome Leicester City to claim the Under 16 crown.

Lincoln City would also like to thank Rob Jones and all his staff at BGU for hosting this year's event and we look forward to returning in 2015 for the fifth annual tournament.
