Barclays says Thank You to young football fans with Abbey Park in Lincoln set for a Premier event...
Abbey Park is geared up for one of their biggest events this year as one of sport’s most famous pieces of silverware, the Barclays Premier League Trophy, is set to visit the site and Lincoln City FC Sport & Education Trust are running the event.
This Monday, 7th April, Abbey Park will run a Family Fun Day for local members of the community to attend. The Trophy will arrive on site at 4.00pm and attendees can take photos with the Trophy.
Barclays, the Premier League’s title sponsor, is bringing the trophy to the site as part of their ‘Thank you’ campaign that aims to recognise fans, community heroes and players for the way they support, volunteer and play the game from grassroots football right up to the Barclays Premier League.
The Trophy will take part in a tour of 15 Barclays Spaces for Sports sites over the first week of the Easter holidays for the benefit of the young players, and the volunteers who help organise the activity.
Barclays Spaces for Sports uses the power of sport to give disadvantaged young people around the world the confidence and skills they need to reach their potential. In partnership with the Football Foundation, Barclays has developed 200 sports facilities in disadvantaged communities in the UK.
David Wheldon, Managing Director of Brand, Reputation, Citizenship and Marketing at Barclays, said: "This season we want to say thank you to those who make such a positive contribution to football and the Barclays Premier League.
"There are thousands of volunteers who are helping young people take part in football, and with 200 Barclays Spaces for Sports sites providing facilities and programmes that help to build young futures, we want to the celebrate the positive work that goes on. We hope seeing the Barclays Premier League trophy at Abbey Park will inspire the young players and the volunteers to continue playing and supporting football."
Paul Carrick, Neighbourhood Manager for the City Of Lincoln Council, said: "It is an exciting opportunity for people in the area to see one of the most recognised trophies in World Football. It also gives the area the opportunity to showcase the facilities that we have in the area and some of the great work taking place in the neighbourhood."
Paul Hamnett, Trust Manager, Lincoln City FC Sport & Education Trust, added: "It is great that such an iconic trophy is visiting Abbey Park. This area does not get this opportunity regularly so we hope that it will inspire those who visit to take part in sport locally. We invite people to come to Abbey Park to see the trophy and create a memory that they can hold for a lifetime."
Spaces for Sports is part of Barclays’ wider commitment to 5 Million Young Futures; Barclays will invest not only money, but employees’ time and expertise in community programmes that enhance the enterprise, employability and financial skills of disadvantaged young people aged 10 to 35 years, by 2015.
