A late Sean Newton free-kick saw the Imps lift the John Reames Memorial Trophy with a narrow success over Boston United at Sincil Bank Stadium.

The first half was an open affair with both sides coming close; Nick Wright having the clearest sight of goal in the second minute only to fire into the side netting after outpacing the Boston defence whilst at the other end Paul Farman produced a superb reflex save to tip over a goalbound Ricky Miller shot.

Adi Yussuf was forced off with what looked to be a hamstring strain midway through the opening period whilst after the break a stunning volley from Danny Rowe flew a foot over the bar before Andrew Boyce prodded into Ashley Timms gloves following a long Tom Miller throw-in.

Nat Brown blocked a Marc Newsham effort off the line before the defender deflected the striker's low effort a foot wide and Farman tipped an Ian Ross free-kick behind in what was a good five minute spell for the Pilgrims shortly after the hour mark.

City rallied late on and after Tomlinson headed a Miller throw-in straight at Timms, it was a trip on substitute Bohan Dixon by Carl Piergianni with three minutes remaining which led to the winning goal.

Sean Newton was the man who came up with the goods with the defender wrapping his trusty left peg around the ball and curling home an excellent effort which gave Timms no chance.

The game ended with Piergianni having a stoppage time header ruled out by referee Andy Park who spotted a push by the centre-back, much to the annoyance of the Boston management team.
