Manor Leas and St. Hugh’s met in the 2013 Domino's Cup Final during the half-time interval at our game against Tamworth last weekend.
Both teams started well, passing and moving the ball comfortably through midfield. However, both teams had a solid defence which proved difficult to break down.
The longer the game went on the more chances were created, with Paddy Sheeran coming close a couple of times for St. Hughs. As the clock counted down the final five minutes, Manor Leas worked the ball forward well to within shooting distance but the St. Hugh’s defence stayed strong to pinch the ball from Chloe Gray.
St. Hugh’s then began a fantastic attack of their own, with Paddy and Jack Slattery linking up well in the final third. With a clever little through ball from Paddy in behind the last defender, Jack was through one-on-one with the keeper and managed to side foot the ball into the ball into the back of the net.
It was a wonderful finish which turned out to be the winner, making St. Hugh’s Catholic Primary the Domino’s Cup champions!
The trophies were presented by Jake Rawlinson from Domino’s Pizza and Lincoln City FC Sport & Education Trust would like to thank Domino’s for their continued support and look forward to next season.
Finally, we would like to thank Les Abbott for his excellent refereeing of the tournament throughout the season. Without match officials the games could not take place and Les’s support has been vital to the success of the tournament.
