Ash Foyle believes his U18 side are progressing despite a 2-1 loss to Stockport County in the group stage of the Youth Alliance Cup.
Gbolahan Okewoye’s equalising goal was not enough for the Imps as, despite dominating much of the game, Stockport scored a winner against the run of play.
Foyle said: “Result aside, I’m very happy with the performance levels of the team, and we have definitely grown since the start of the season.
“Hopefully we can use the performance from this game and take it into the league games that we have coming up.”
Foyle felt that his side were taught a lesson in being clinical, feeling that the chances not taken were what ultimately cost them the points.
He added: “It was a great learning experience for the lads in terms of demonstrating the importance of taking your chances.
“We dominated the game, but if you don’t put the ball into the back of the net, then this is what can happen.”
