Ash Foyle believes there are lessons to be learned following defeat against Grimsby Town U18 on Saturday.
City U18 were beaten by the young Mariners at the BMW Soper of Lincoln Elite Performance Centre at the weekend, but Foyle is confident his side will learn to be more clinical in key moments.
He said: “It’s an interesting match and one we can definitely learn from. During the first 30 minutes we were really hard to handle and we deserved our lead. After that, we need to make sure we can still control the game when the tempo slows down.
“We allowed the opposition to get a foothold in the game and so the big lesson for us is that when we are dominating, we’ve got to go and punish them more than we did.”
Foyle is also keen for his side to manage games better but is pleased with the work rate from his players.
He added: “There are certain things in the game you can’t control, but we’ve got to be better with how we react to certain things and show some more maturity.
"We’re certainly happy we had the non-negotiables in terms of effort, meaning we can focus as coaching staff on helping them with tactical detail and technical execution.”
