Ash Foyle is pleased with his side’s dominant performance to progress into the third round of the FA Youth Cup after a 5-0 win against Walsall U18.
The young Imps shared the goals amongst the team with five different goal scorers which was another pleasing aspect for the U18 head coach.
Foyle said: “I’m really pleased to get a strong result against an organised team. The lads really took on board the work we have been doing in training and executed their work brilliantly.
“We discussed a lot about how we could be a threat and have multiple ways to hurt the opposition so it was pleasing to see us create lots of chances and ultimately come away from the game feeling we could have scored more.”
Foyle also believes previous experience of playing at the LNER Stadium helped his side secure progression and is hoping for another strong showing in the third round of the competition when the young Imps face either Bradford or Barnsley.
He added: “The experience the lads had last year helped them settle into the game well. We had a good start and put them on the back foot and fingers crossed we can take that into the next round.
“Both potential opponents will be a tough test. We play Bradford a lot in our games programme and will have to be on the money against them, and we played out a goal-thriller against Barnsley during pre-season.
“We will try and do as much research as we can whoever the opponent to prepare the group as best we can because that helped the lads a lot.”
