Ash Foyle is excited by the test the second round of the FA Youth Cup will provide his side.
The Young Imps face Walsall at the LNER Stadium on Monday 20 November after progressing past Notts County in the previous round.
Foyle said: “It is definitely the high point of the calendar and a competition people look forward to and pinpoint. We want to assess these players in this competition because it provides the highest level of challenge and the most pressure we can put them under because it is knockout football.
“It's a really good competition and one the club has had a reasonable level of success in by getting into third and fourth rounds in recent years. It can pitch you against opposition you may not normally play against in the regular games programme and provide challenges the lads aren’t necessarily used to.”
The Young Imps will return to the LNER Stadium for the first time since their U17 Floodlit Cup final win last season, and Foyle is hopeful the experience of playing under the lights and in front of a crowd will stand his side in good stead.
He added: “We’re hopeful that experience last season has left the lads with a better feeling of playing these home matches because they will not get swallowed up by the occasion and that can be the difference sometimes in these fixtures.
“The fact we have played multiple games at the LNER Stadium in cup competitions with the added pressure of the crowds will hopefully result in a really healthy experience for our lads and one which will contribute to getting the right result on the night.”
