City’s U18 academy side are set to start their season this Saturday against Rotherham United.
The U18’s have been busy in pre-season with games against Sleaford, Lincoln United, Thorne Colliery, Salford U20s, Leeds United and Barnsley, three of which were senior mens sides.
As well as getting minutes, the team did plenty of team bonding including training at Mablethorpe Beach and Hartsholme Lake as well as volunteering at the stadium to help with the preparations for the new season.
U18 head coach Ash Foyle was pleased with his sides’ pre-season preparations ahead of the new campaign.
He said: “Pre season has been tough for the players but have had some great experiences along the way both on and off the pitch.
“We have faced some really tough opposition with the likes of Leeds and Barnsley as well as 3 games against men so should hopefully have given us the competitive edge that we are going to need.”
Foyle added: “I really hope the lads can continue where they left off last season. Pre season has shown that we are capable of scoring some great goals and have a real attacking threat however we must ensure we try to reduce the amount of individual errors to avoid conceding unnecessary goals.
“The game will be a physical and mental battle that we need to be ready for and hopefully allow us to show that we can really hurt them and stay in control of the game”
