Lee Mitchell was proud of his players after the Imps secured safety in the FA Women’s National League Division One Midlands with a 3-1 victory against Notts County.
First-half strikes from Jemima Footitt, Neve Hincks and Lucy Farrow secured a crucial three points for Mitchell’s side who made it mathematically sure that they would be playing step four football next season.
Mitchell said: “It was a great occasion, we really appreciate them putting it on here. The experience of playing in stadiums and occasions like this definitely showed, especially at the start.
“I’m really proud. We’ve had some great performances this season, and we’ll reflect on a few games where we’ve lost out by a last-minute goal.
“It’s all about staying in step four and building for us.”
Footitt starred in City’s victory with the winger scoring a beauty before assisting Farrow later in the half, and Mitchell felt the pace of his forward three caused real concern for the Magpies’ back-line.
He added: “Jemima was flying first-half, I think they struggled to handle our pace on both wings and up front, and we knew we had to try and get them turned.
“It helped build Jemima’s confidence because she’s only young, she’s just started getting into the side regularly this side of Christmas, but she’s one to watch for the future for us, and we have a few players like that.
“We’re a young side from front to back, so the players have done superbly well this season, and to get it over the line on this occasion in this stadium is fantastic.”
The Imps return to Moorlands for the final game of the season against Loughborough Lightning on Sunday 5 May.
