City were beaten 3-2 by Peterborough United on their return to the LNER Stadium on Sunday 7 April.

Peterborough received the first set-piece of the game in a dangerous area after a Leah Hardy foul. Megan Lawlor delivered an inviting ball that was met by a header, however it strayed just wide of Timson’s near-post.

In the 5th minute Emily Brett opened the scoring. After City were given a drop ball the Posh forward blocked the ball and knocked it home into an empty net.

It took just 6 minutes for the Imps to equalise. A fantastic bit of play by Leah Hardy on the left-hand side followed by a pass into the path of Maddi Green allowed her to strike from range, the ball nestling into the bottom corner.

City completed the comeback in a flash. Once again Leah Hardy at the heart of play but this time as the goal scorer. A perfectly timed through-ball by Millie Quaintance in the 18th minute found Hardy who tapped it into the bottom left corner.

Around the half hour mark the game fizzled out. Whilst Peterborough was the side maintaining the majority of possession, City still looked dangerous on the counter.

The first-half concluded with the hosts taking a huge 2-1 lead.

City had the first big chance of the second-half. Millie Quaintance cleanly struck the ball from the edge of the box. Her effort whistled past the left post.

In the 57th minute, Ella Thompson-Moulding put in a dangerous ball from a freekick which was met by plenty of frantic scrambling in the box. The ball eventually fell kindly to Faith Horner however she couldn’t keep her effort down and resulted in a Posh goal kick.

With 15 minutes to go Ella Brett got her second of the game. A dangerous delivery once again By Megan Lawlor found Brett who made the slightest of contact on the ball to root Lana Timson to the spot.

A minute later Timson made an unbelievable save from close range to deny Posh the lead. The ball went behind for a goal kick after an opposition player was deemed to have got a touch on the ball after the save.

A high looping ball into the penalty area proved too difficult for City to deal with. After some miscommunication, Thompson-Moulding headed the ball, lobbing Timson and into an empty net to give the visitors a late lead in the 82nd minute.

In the 3rd minute of added time, Thompson-Moulding set substitute Lucy Farrow on her way down the right wing with a delightful pass. Farrow did everything right but couldn’t keep her shot on target.

An Imps own-goal was enough to ensure that Peterborough left the LNER Stadium with all 3 points.
