City head coach Michael Skubala felt the draw against Cambridge United summed up the season so far, after City had to settle for a point.
The Imps head coach was pleased with the strong start that his side had, including Freddie Draper's goal after 17 minutes.
He said: "We started the game well, went 1-0 up and had chances to score again - had we done that it'd have been a completely different game.
"We had chances cleared off the line and another one saved. It feels like the story of our season where we are having chances to score, but we are not scoring. We have to make more of those moments."
Cambridge replied just before the break and Skubala was disappointed that his side could not find a winner in the second half.
He said: "They made the game slow and we couldn't get going again, that's the disappointing thing. It's not through effort. It's more our game management. It's more about moving the ball quick at certain moments with 11 behind the ball. We have got to be smarter with the ball.
"We have to keep working, keep pushing, keep trying to be positive with how we are doing things. We are getting the chances. That game feels like the story of our season."
City defender Sean Roughan made his 50th consecutive league appearance for the club on Saturday, with Skubala pleased with the Irishman's consistency.
He added: "Sean is growing all the time. He's a really good player for us and has been solid all season, but for such a young age, to do what he has been doing he just needs to keep progressing with what he is doing."
