Sam Tillen was delighted with the second half response of the squad as they emerged 3-0 victors over Shrewsbury Town.
Will Cowin struck first for the young Imps before a well-taken volley from Noah Simmons doubled the advantage and with the final kick of the game Freddie Wilson sealed all three points for City. Tillen spoke about his clear half time message which resulted in the dominant second 45.
He said: “We spoke at half time about improving our passing detail and also ascertaining when to travel with the ball and when to play faster as the pitch felt very small and lacked width.
“After the goalless first half I felt we went up a gear, we pressed intensely and showed better quality in possession and that in turn led to the creation of good opportunities in front of goal.”
Tilllen was also keen to point out Timi Bada’s performance, having a big impact in both the first and third Imps’ goals.
Tillen said: “The first goal came after fantastic work from Timi Bada down the left, his aggression and directness followed by a composed ball to Dan Vanderpuye who teed the ball up perfectly for Will Cowin to strike home from the edge of the box.
“Timi’s constant threat led him to beat his man down the left in the 94th minute to set up Freddie Wilson to end the game in a very positive fashion.”
After recent results getting away from the Imps when in the ascendancy, Tillen highlighted the defensive strength shown by his players after taking the lead.
He said: “After the second goal I feel like we managed the game well, Lewy Oliver and Leo Vout marshalled the defensive line well and were aggressive in pushing the team up the field.
“It was a pleasing response from the boys after the disappointment at Walsall. A clean sheet and three goals are nothing less than they deserved.”
